Top 5 Activities for a British Seaside Getaway

Whilst the nights may be drawing in quicker and the weather getting colder, Britain’s beaches are still booming with activity this Autumn. We’ve put together our top five activities for a British seaside getaway regardless of the weather.

Throw a Barbecue

Even if the weather is dull and grey, there’s something very comforting about a barbie on a British beach, not to mention the perfect way to bond with family over some delicious food whilst watching the waves roll in! It is important to check your beach of choice allows for personal barbecues, as not all allow it or are safe to do so in.

Take a Picnic

If the weathers not quite right for a barbecue or you don’t think its allowed, why not take a picnic with you instead? If the weathers nice, you could do some sunbathing or go for a swim! Picnics are ideal for all weather conditions; simply find a nice beach hut or shelter if it starts to rain!

Organise some Games

If you’re on a static caravan holiday, it’s the perfect time to get your neighbours involved in some seaside games. Whether you’re interested in a quick game of frisbee, football or old school rounders, the beach is the perfect, spacious place to do so.

Set Up Camp

Why not go on an adventure one night and set up camp on your local beach? You can bring the barbecue and some games along with you, creating the perfect atmosphere. We’d advise leaving camping to the Summer, and make sure your beach of choice allows it!

Local Events

Whether you’re on holiday or at your local beach, why not check to see if there are any local events taking place? You may find that there’s a funfair, volleyball tournament or community feast happening nearby.

At Retreat Caravan Park, we’re located adjacent to the beautiful, seven-mile long Burnham Beach. It is the ideal place to spend your holidays, whether you’re planning to visit in the Summer or Winter! With so much going on in the local community, there’s always something to do or see at Burnham-on-Sea.

At Retreat Caravan Park, we can help you find your home away from home for unlimited family holidays all year round! For more information, don’t hesitate to contact the team today or call us on 01278 795006.

The Top 5 Accessories your Static Caravan Needs

If you’re heading to your static caravan for a nice summer holiday, you can spice things up by introducing some of these great accessories to your home away from home.

Awning

Awnings are a versatile and stylish way to add shade and usable space to the side of your caravan. They are perfect for use in Summer when eating outdoors or can be used as a place to store equipment, as an extra ‘camping-style’ bedroom or even as a wet room. The best part is they can be neatly rolled away when they aren’t needed.

Fencing

Adding fencing around your static caravan, garden and pitch is a great way to create a cosy and comfortable feeling to your home away from home. Fencing is a great way to create a real community space whilst secluding yourself away enough for your own homely space. A lot of our holiday homes that are currently for sale already feature fencing.

Tool-Kit

Unfortunately, things can go wrong at any given moment, meaning you will really regret not having a tool-kit to hand. A basic, easy-to-find tool-kit will be enough, as they tend to include a wrench, mallet, screwdriver and other bits and bobs, but it will really come in handy and help you out should you if you run into any common problems.

Storage Unit

It’s no secret that the storage space in a static caravan can often be on the small side. That’s why an outdoor storage unit is the perfect accompaniment, particularly for items like garden furniture and bicycles that you wouldn’t want to leave in your caravan. Most storage units are lockable to ensure optimum security and can also be bolted to the ground.

Safety Equipment

Not all static caravans are kitted out with the latest safety equipment, so it’s vital that you get the things you need for optimal safety. We’d advise a fire extinguisher, fire blanket and smoke alarm that is tested regularly to ensure your static caravan is as safe as possible. Whilst fires may be rare, it’s better to be safe than sorry.

Why Choose a Static Caravan this Summer Holiday

With Summer getting ever closer by the second, you may be wondering whether to head to your trusty static caravan for this year’s summer holiday.

Here at Retreat Caravan Park, we certainly think you should, simply because there are so many things a static caravan holiday can offer you. We’ve outlined some of the best reasons as to why you should choose to visit your static caravan these summer months.

Home from Home

Having your own static caravan to visit during the summer is like having a home away from home. You’ll have all the luxuries and excitement of being on holiday but still have the cosiness and can’t-beat feeling that comes with being at home.

Bring the Whole Family

Unlike a holiday abroad, the whole family can visit your static caravan to join in with the summer fun. Whether you want to invite grandma over for the weekend, bring the dog along on the family trip or invite friends for the night, you can do it all in a static caravan.

So Much to Do

Static caravan holidays often come with so much to do for the whole family, or at least they do at Retreat. We have a range of fantastic facilities for you to enjoy and are conveniently located on the beachfront in Burnham-on-Sea, where there is so much to do and see every month.

No Travel Fees

Whilst your static caravan may be far enough away for you to incur petrol fees and a long car journey, the cost will be nothing compared to the fees that come with airport transfers, flights and car hires at the other end!

New Locations

Whether you’ve been to your static caravan a thousand times before or not, it’s always interesting to explore a new location. Why not catch the train to the next town across for a fun day trip or check out the local attractions you haven’t already visited?

If you’re interested in having your own static caravan, take a look at the fantastic range of homes and pitches we currently have available. Essentials to Pack on your Summer Static Caravan Holiday

If you’re heading on your summer holidays to a static caravan this year, you may be wondering what essentials to pack. If you’re staying in the UK, the weather could be an issue, so you’ll want to ensure you pack enough clothes for both hot and cold temperatures!

We’ve put together all the essentials to help you pack for your time away, ensuring nothing gets left behind!

The Basics

Forgetting the basics on your static caravan will quickly cause chaos and Dad running out to the shops! We would recommend you remember to bring some of your own tea towels, bath towels, washing up bits and toilet roll, as these are unlikely to be supplied for you. Remember to take bed linen with you if your static caravan doesn’t already have some.

Remember to take pots, pans, cutlery, cooking utensils and crockery if you don’t already have them in your static caravan; you won’t want to be caught without these.

Food

It’s a good idea to keep some tinned food in your static caravan for the entire season, to avoid having to entirely stock up every time you go away. Many people choose to bring some fresh food bits with them on their static caravan holiday to avoid having to nip to the shops after a long day of travelling. We’d advise bringing bread, tea or coffee, milk, sandwich spreads and ready meals with you.

You can then stock up on other bits later once you have settled in, meaning you won’t have to shop immediately and can visit local markets for fresh produce.

Entertainment

We all know British weather can be very unpredictable, which can mean some forms of entertainment may be required. Whilst there will be a lot of activities in the holiday park itself and its surrounding areas, you should bring some family games, DVDs, magazines, crosswords and other things you can enjoy on a rainy day!

You should also bring some entertainment for sunny days, like bikes, bucket and spade, fishing rods, balls and frisbees, for example.

Clothing

As previously mentioned, you should bring an array of clothing with you that will suit the ever-changing English weather. Pack some sandals, wellies, swimsuits, jackets, thermals, shorts and everything in between! It’s better to bring it with you and be prepared then caught out in the rain wearing 30-degree attire.

If you’re interested in owning your own static caravan, we can help. We have several beautiful holiday homes available to purchase, all of which come with a generously spaced pitch, private garden and standard facilities at our fantastic Burnham-on-Sea location.

Why Investing in a Holiday Home is the Perfect New Year Resolution

Millions of people all over the world decide to invest in a static caravan holiday home for their own individual reasons. However, there are a few that crop up time and time again. If you’re unsure whether to buy your own holiday home in 2018, we’ve put together our favourite reasons why investing in a holiday home is the perfect new year resolution to set yourself, even if it is a bit late!

Spend more time with Family

Having a static caravan holiday home readily available means it’s easy to spend more time with your family. Think back to the last time the entire family got together for a Sunday Roast? It is a distant memory for many as people are simply too busy to keep time free.  Static caravans allow people a place to shut off from the distractions of everyday life and spend precious, quality moments with their family.

Something for getting Older

Owning a static caravan holiday home can make retirement look like a great prospect. Having a static caravan can mean you have a whole new location to explore, with fun and exciting places to see, interesting people to meet and new hobbies to discover. Rather than going on holiday for a week and not getting the chance to explore all the places you want to see, a static caravan holiday home can allow you to truly immerse yourself with a new location.

Switching off is Easy

The modern world is full of technological advances that ensure it’s impossible to get a moments rest. Having a static caravan can mean that time is spent genuinely relaxing without the worries of everyday life. If you’re someone who has a stressful job, you could hugely benefit from the advantages a relaxing holiday home can offer on the weekends, weeks off or simply for special occasions.

If any of the above sound like something you’re in need of, a holiday home could be the perfect chance for you to make the most out of 2018 and beyond. Owning your own holiday home in Somerset couldn’t be easier with Retreat Estates. Our Retreat is the perfect place to relax and unwind and is the ideal location for you and your family to begin a lifetime of fantastic weekend breaks and enjoyable holidays.

Spending Valentine’s Day in your Static Caravan

With Valentine’s Day quickly approaching, it’s time to start preparing for the most romantic day of the year. Are you planning on spending the day with a romantic dinner? Or perhaps you’ll go to the cinema? If the usual Valentine’s Day gestures have become something you’re uninterested in, or you just feel your partner deserves an extra treat this year, why not celebrate a little differently with a weekend away in your static caravan?

Static caravans allow you to experience the freedom of a new place but with the added benefit of homely creature comforts. Not much more could be more romantic than enjoying an evening under the stars with some breath-taking scenery. With that, comes the chance to travel and explore, finding some truly beautiful destinations to enjoy with your love this Valentine’s Day.

We’ve put together some of our favourite reasons as to why you should take a trip away in your static caravan this Valentine’s Day.

  1. Spending Valentine’s Day in your static caravan is often the cheaper option when compared to the money that would be spent in an expensive restaurant. Why not cook your partner their favourite meal in your static caravan?
  2. Choosing for a Valentine’s weekend away can be hugely expensive, and is definitely wasted money if you have a static caravan waiting for you to enjoy!
  3. Create a campfire near your caravan to roast marshmallows or enjoy a romantic and cosy snuggle with your loved one.
  4. Need to bring the kids? Most static caravan parks will be full of activities to work as the perfect distraction.
  5. Planning an entire weekend away from start to finish is a great way of showing your loved ones how much you care about them. Try and include little thoughtful memoirs throughout the weekend, too.

If you’re hoping to own a static caravan before Valentine’s Day and are unsure where to start looking, we can help! Take a look at the holiday homes we currently have available here. Enjoying Christmas in your Static Caravan

If you’re the proud owner of a static caravan holiday home, you may have thought about getting the ideal Christmas getaway. A lot of holiday parks are open all year round to owners, and if yours is one of them, you could be having festivities whilst enjoying the relaxation the holidays have to offer.

Remember that whenever you go on holiday during the year it’s vital to make sure your home is kept safe and secure. Leaving a light on is a great way to deter any burglars or you could ask a neighbour or family member to keep an eye out whilst you are away.

We’ve put together some of our top tips to ensure your Christmas static caravan holiday is a real success.

Think of the Weather

Just because you’re heading on holiday, doesn’t mean the weather will be warm for Christmas. If your static caravan holiday home isn’t already equipped with extra blankets, take some with you. Even if you have a good central heating system in your static caravan, it’s always sensible to be fully prepared in the colder months! Just imagine if the boiler broke down and the temperatures were below freezing! It’s also important to remember your warmest winter clothes, shoes and PJ’s too!

Decorate for Christmas!

Why would you head away for a Christmas holiday without decorating your static caravan the same way you would decorate your home? Your tree may have to be slightly smaller, but you can get some great ones with lights attached, meaning no untangling and less plugs and electricity used! Avoid using real candles in a static caravan as they can quickly become dangerous, so stick with decorations like wreaths and the likes to create a very festive feel!

Traditional Christmas Food

Modern static caravans have everything you need in a kitchen to cook the perfect dinner, including at Christmas. You may find it easier to cook the turkey at home and take it with you if you’re only spending a few nights away, as it will save you time and more room for all the delicious extras. If you’re looking for a completely stress-free weekend away, look out for local restaurants and pubs that are offering Christmas Day dinners- but remember you’ll need to book in advance.

Family Entertainment

Christmas Day just isn’t the same without some fantastic entertainment. If your static caravan has a TV or Wi-Fi connection, you won’t need to miss out on the fantastic television Christmas has to offer. Bring some board games with you to give the whole family a chance to rest their eyes from the TV screen and have a whole lot of fun. If your caravan park is open over the Christmas holidays, it’s likely that a number of the facilities will be available too, so look out for those!

Top 10 Items to Pack on a Caravan Holiday

One of the best things about a static caravan holiday is that it’s like a home away from home. However, this means you’ll need to bring your home essentials as they’re unlikely to be provided for you. With England holidays comes unpredictable British weather, meaning you’ll need to ensure nothing is forgotten! We’ve put together our top ten items to pack on a static caravan holiday to guarantee you’ll have everything you need for a great week away.

  1. Towels

Though towels may be provided in holiday resorts, it’s highly unlikely that you’ll be given them on a static caravan resort. Don’t be caught out by only packing a bath towel, you’ll also need beach towels and tea towels if you’re planning on doing some home cooking.

  1. Cooking Utensils

If you are planning on doing some home cooking whilst away in your static caravan, you’re going to want to remember to pack some cooking utensils. Bring a spatula, wooden spoon and tongs in case the weathers nice and you decide to have a BBQ! You won’t want to be caught without them.

  1. The Basics

You’ll want to ensure you take some extra toilet roll, kitchen roll, cling film and tin foil with you if you haven’t stocked up in your static caravan. Though these things will be easy to buy on or around the caravan park, you’ll want to have them readily available at all times.

  1. Food

Save some time and a boring trip to the local supermarket by bringing some basic food with you. Many people want to enjoy a nice cup of tea after travelling across country, so it’s important to have the essentials like teabags and biscuits at the ready! Stock up on non-perishable items in your caravan for future trips, too- just in case.

  1. Entertainment

Holidaying in England means you should be prepared for the unpredictable weather. If you’re on a break away with the kids, you’ll want to ensure there is some entertainment available for rainy days. Bring an array of board games to play as a family or even some DVD’s to watch together.

  1. Furnishings

Not necessarily for the static caravan itself, but furnishings like foldaway beach chairs and umbrellas are important to pack if you’re opting for a holiday by the sea. A good beach chair will help you to stay comfortable and you can even sit outside the caravan itself to talk to your neighbours.

  1. Clothes

You won’t forget to pack your clothes, but you might forget to pack an array of different garments for different weather conditions. Remember it might rain, so wellies and a jumper are a must for the suitcase, whilst shorts, swimsuits and vests are a necessity for the (hopefully) sunnier days!

  1. Toiletries

If you don’t keep a supply of toiletries in your static caravan, you’ll want to ensure they’re packed to bring along. Bring sun cream even if you don’t think you’ll need it- remember the weather is susceptible to change! A first aid kit is also a must for any accidents that might occur.

  1. Area maps/Guides

If you’re relatively new to the area, it might be beneficial for you to take a map or guide of the area along with you. It will help you get around without getting lost and could give you some fun and exciting ideas of where to visit with the whole family, saving you spending days indoors bored.

  1. Last-Minute Things

The easiest things to forget and some of the most important. Do a last-minute check of your home to ensure you’ve packed the basics like your toothbrush, hairbrush, phone charger and other necessities that you may have used before you need to get up and leave!
