5 Tips for Making your Static Caravan feel like Home

If you’ve recently purchased a static caravan, or are thinking of doing so, you may be wondering how you can create a comfortable and relaxed home away from home. We’ve put together our top tips on how to add the finishing touches to make your static caravan feel like home.

Add Mirrors

Static caravans are small, and whilst this creates a cosy atmosphere, it’s often the contrary to what our homes are like. Adding mirrors throughout the static caravan can help to make the space feel bigger, as well as bring in extra light to create an airy feel to an otherwise cramped caravan.

Even if your static caravan is located on the seafront and you can’t tear your eyes away from the view, you need to add curtains for your own privacy. Aside from that, curtains can add a pop of colour to the interior of a static caravan, whilst opting for blackout curtains are a great way to ensure you get a good night’s sleep, just like you would back in your own bed at home.

If you have built a second-hand caravan home, it may not be decorated to your tastes. Luckily, they can be easily decorated with a fresh lick of paint or wallpaper of your choice to easily create a static caravan that feels like your home. Static caravans aren’t big, so it shouldn’t be a huge expense to redecorate yours.

The thing you love most about your home is probably your bed, which is why it’s so important for the bed in your static caravan to be just as comfortable. Keep costs to a minimum by opting for a memory-foam mattress topper and some luxury pillows and sheets. A good night’s sleep will help you to make the most of your holiday!

Personal Touches

Add smaller, personal touches around your static caravan for it to really feel like a home away from home. This can be done by dotting artwork, ornaments and photos of your family and friends around the place. As static caravans are quite small spaces, ensure you don’t create too much clutter with random bits and bobs, instead choose a few statement pieces.

The more often you visit your static caravan, the quicker it will begin to feel like a real safe haven and home away from home. If you’re looking for the perfect static caravan suited to you and your family, we can help.

Here at Retreat Estates, we have a range of static caravan holidays available for ownership at multiple budgets. For more information, you can contact a member of the team today by calling us on 01278 795006 or via our contact page.

The Top 5 Accessories your Static Caravan Needs

If you’re heading to your static caravan for a nice summer holiday, you can spice things up by introducing some of these great accessories to your home away from home.

Awnings are a versatile and stylish way to add shade and usable space to the side of your caravan. They are perfect for use in Summer when eating outdoors or can be used as a place to store equipment, as an extra ‘camping-style’ bedroom or even as a wet room. The best part is they can be neatly rolled away when they aren’t needed.

Adding fencing around your static caravan, garden and pitch is a great way to create a cosy and comfortable feeling to your home away from home. Fencing is a great way to create a real community space whilst secluding yourself away enough for your own homely space. A lot of our holiday homes that are currently for sale already feature fencing.

Unfortunately, things can go wrong at any given moment, meaning you will really regret not having a tool-kit to hand. A basic, easy-to-find tool-kit will be enough, as they tend to include a wrench, mallet, screwdriver and other bits and bobs, but it will really come in handy and help you out should you if you run into any common problems.

Storage Unit

It’s no secret that the storage space in a static caravan can often be on the small side. That’s why an outdoor storage unit is the perfect accompaniment, particularly for items like garden furniture and bicycles that you wouldn’t want to leave in your caravan. Most storage units are lockable to ensure optimum security and can also be bolted to the ground.

Safety Equipment

Not all static caravans are kitted out with the latest safety equipment, so it’s vital that you get the things you need for optimal safety. We’d advise a fire extinguisher, fire blanket and smoke alarm that is tested regularly to ensure your static caravan is as safe as possible. Whilst fires may be rare, it’s better to be safe than sorry.

Why Choose a Static Caravan this Summer Holiday

With Summer getting ever closer by the second, you may be wondering whether to head to your trusty static caravan for this year’s summer holiday.

Here at Retreat Caravan Park, we certainly think you should, simply because there are so many things a static caravan holiday can offer you. We’ve outlined some of the best reasons as to why you should choose to visit your static caravan these summer months.

Home from Home

Having your own static caravan to visit during the summer is like having a home away from home. You’ll have all the luxuries and excitement of being on holiday but still have the cosiness and can’t-beat feeling that comes with being at home.

Bring the Whole Family

Unlike a holiday abroad, the whole family can visit your static caravan to join in with the summer fun. Whether you want to invite grandma over for the weekend, bring the dog along on the family trip or invite friends for the night, you can do it all in a static caravan.

So Much to Do

Static caravan holidays often come with so much to do for the whole family, or at least they do at Retreat. We have a range of fantastic facilities for you to enjoy and are conveniently located on the beachfront in Burnham-on-Sea, where there is so much to do and see every month.

No Travel Fees

Whilst your static caravan may be far enough away for you to incur petrol fees and a long car journey, the cost will be nothing compared to the fees that come with airport transfers, flights and car hires at the other end!

New Locations

Whether you’ve been to your static caravan a thousand times before or not, it’s always interesting to explore a new location. Why not catch the train to the next town across for a fun day trip or check out the local attractions you haven’t already visited?

With the summer holidays approaching, many of us are getting ready to open the doors to our static caravans for the hot months. For those of us who haven’t visited our static caravan for a while, some cleaning is probably going to be needed! Regular cleaning can help to get rid of any bugs and germs, keep vermin away and prolong the life of your furnishings, fixtures and fittings.

Whether you’re looking for some tips on keeping your static caravan spotless and beautiful all year round or need help on one big clean, we can help!

Internal Cleaning

  • We’d advise cleaning and tidying one room at a time. Once you see one room revamped and freshened it will inspire you to carry on!
  • Remember those hard to reach places like blinds; try attaching a cloth to a ruler to clean tricky places!
  • A top trick for removing limescale from a kettle is squeezing in lemon juice, adding cold water and leaving it to stand for half an hour.
  • Use window cleaner or a weak white vinegar solution to clean any grubby marks from the insides of windows.
  • As you clean, make a list of any necessary repairs you should undertake soon. You can go back to them later or tick them off as you go.
  • Give your bathroom and kitchen a good clean. Remember the insides of your fridge; antibacterial wipes are great to use here.
  • Finish off with a quick spritz of air freshener and fresh, clean sheets on the beds.

External Cleaning

  • Have a look at the guttering and ensure it is free of any fallen leaves or debris. If possible, wash the gutter with a hosepipe.
  • Give any doors, windows, skirting areas and vents a thorough wash and ensure you have removed all debris, leaves, twigs and unwanted animal nests.
  • Give the exterior of the caravan a wash and polish all over. You can contact an experienced cleaning company to help you if you are less able.
  • Remember the roof of your caravan; rinse it with water to loosen any dirt or debris that has got stuck.
  • Wash the exterior of windows with a soft cloth and water. Car windscreen cleaner can help to get your windows sparkling!
  • As with the interior, make note of any repairs that may need doing in the future.

Whilst cleaning can get boring, try and make it a fun job that will prepare you for seasons worth of relaxation in your static caravan. Why not get the whole family involved to speed up the cleaning process?

Essentials to Pack on your Summer Static Caravan Holiday

If you’re heading on your summer holidays to a static caravan this year, you may be wondering what essentials to pack. If you’re staying in the UK, the weather could be an issue, so you’ll want to ensure you pack enough clothes for both hot and cold temperatures!

We’ve put together all the essentials to help you pack for your time away, ensuring nothing gets left behind!

The Basics

Forgetting the basics on your static caravan will quickly cause chaos and Dad running out to the shops! We would recommend you remember to bring some of your own tea towels, bath towels, washing up bits and toilet roll, as these are unlikely to be supplied for you. Remember to take bed linen with you if your static caravan doesn’t already have some.

Remember to take pots, pans, cutlery, cooking utensils and crockery if you don’t already have them in your static caravan; you won’t want to be caught without these.

It’s a good idea to keep some tinned food in your static caravan for the entire season, to avoid having to entirely stock up every time you go away. Many people choose to bring some fresh food bits with them on their static caravan holiday to avoid having to nip to the shops after a long day of travelling. We’d advise bringing bread, tea or coffee, milk, sandwich spreads and ready meals with you.

You can then stock up on other bits later once you have settled in, meaning you won’t have to shop immediately and can visit local markets for fresh produce.

We all know British weather can be very unpredictable, which can mean some forms of entertainment may be required. Whilst there will be a lot of activities in the holiday park itself and its surrounding areas, you should bring some family games, DVDs, magazines, crosswords and other things you can enjoy on a rainy day!

You should also bring some entertainment for sunny days, like bikes, bucket and spade, fishing rods, balls and frisbees, for example.

As previously mentioned, you should bring an array of clothing with you that will suit the ever-changing English weather. Pack some sandals, wellies, swimsuits, jackets, thermals, shorts and everything in between! It’s better to bring it with you and be prepared then caught out in the rain wearing 30-degree attire.

If you’re interested in owning your own static caravan, we can help. We have several beautiful holiday homes available to purchase, all of which come with a generously spaced pitch, private garden and standard facilities at our fantastic Burnham-on-Sea location.
