Many static caravans come ready styled and furnished, meaning it can be difficult to create an interior or exterior to your own tastes. If you already own a static caravan and feel it could do with a style overhaul, we’ve put together our top five ideas to help you modernise it.
Flooring
The flooring in your home away from home can make a huge difference. Older caravans or those that are well-loved will have obvious signs of ageing and wear and are probably due an upgrade. If you want carpeted flooring, you could have it professionally fitted or could do it yourself by carefully cutting out edges and avoiding obstacles like the counters and the fridge.
More modern caravans will have laminated flooring, which is a cleaner and more hygienic solution. Again, this could be fitted professionally or done yourself. Adding rugs on top of laminate could provide a brighter, cosier and warmer environment.
Seating
A static caravans seating area is one of the most important areas. If it’s not comfortable, has faded or is starting to show signs of wear, it’s probably time to consider a change. Whether you want to replace the entire seating area or simply get new seating covers for an entirely new look, there are many options available. You should opt for a fabric that compliments the rest of your caravan’s furniture and is also hard-wearing.
If you’re someone who often has pets or children staying in your static caravan, a seating design that is easy to clean or will mask the odd accidental spills and stains is ideal.
Kitchen & Bathroom
Don’t be afraid of giving your kitchen or bathroom a modernised overhaul. If your furnishings have got a few chips or are cracked, they can easily be fixed yourself with a bit of DIY. Alternatively, you could get an entirely new replacement, though it would be best to call in a professional to fit anything that involves water.
Replacing cabinet doors and drawers with more modern furnishings is a great way to give your kitchen or bathroom space a new look. However, this can be expensive depending on how many things you’re looking to replace. Alternatively, rubbing down surfaces with sandpaper and using varnishing, waxing and painting is much cheaper!
Curtains & Blinds
Most older static caravans will have curtains. For a more contemporary feel, why not replace them with blinds? The possibilities are endless, and it will be easy to find somewhere that will cut them to size. Whether you’re looking for roller blinds, venetian or fabric, your caravan will have an entirely new look.
Many people opt for blackout blinds in their caravans, specifically in the bedrooms. All light will be kept out and your sleep will be undisturbed, specifically on mornings where getting out of bed is just not an option.
Exterior
Over the years, the exterior of your static caravan can become worn. It can be possible to remove any stains and dirt quite easily, as well as dents and any paint damage, which you should be able to obtain from most DIY stores. Don’t do anything to your caravan’s exterior until you’ve given it a thorough wash- you’ll be amazed at the difference!
If you’re looking for a completely new exterior, you could opt for a caravan wrap. These are vinyl adhesive covers that are applied to the caravan to give it a brand-new look. If you change your mind in the future, the wraps can be easily removed.
Many modern caravans are now decorated so beautifully on both the interior and exterior that there will never be much need for an overhaul. If you’re looking for a brand-new static caravan holiday home, take a look at our current holiday homes available now.
